Connections and public realm

19 of 25 Principle 19

Principle 19:

Ensure ease of navigation and connectivity between Oxford Street and surrounding character areas to draw pedestrians off Oxford Street and encourage exploration of the wider West End.

Example actions:

Improve connections to green spaces within the district, including Hyde Park, to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of everyone who visits, lives and works in the district.

Enhance the network of side streets and passageways off Oxford Street by clearing clutter to maintain sightlines, and increase pedestrian priority within the public realm, facilitating better legibility and movement through the district.

Highlight entrances and key routes into neighbouring areas with considered design of the public realm that is complementary to the identity of the district.

Encourage occupiers to create routes through buildings, particularly larger blocks, to offer a greater choice of pedestrian routes and connections within the district.
